HOW TO BECOME A QME
QME certification test preparation program.
We offer a comprehensive QME test preparation program to ensure passing the State of California QME certification test at your very first attempt. The program includes Q bank and extensive live QME test prep by our Medical Director, Dr. Sherman.

Complete the Mandatory 16-Hour QME Report Writing Course
Premier Disability Evaluators, PC is accredited by the Administrative Director of the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) as an approved provider of the Mandatory 16-Hour QME Report Writing Course.
Pursuant to California Code of Regulations, Title 8, Section 11.5, all physicians seeking appointment as a new QME must complete at least 16 hours of approved instruction in disability evaluation report writing.
Course Format:
- 6-hour live instructional session
- 10 hours of online self-study

A straightforward agreement that includes our exclusive administration of your QME practice for one year following QME certification.
We work with you to build a reputation of an excellent med-legal expert among WC judges, defense attorneys, applicant attorneys and insurance adjusters.
We work with you to build your success as a new QME in all the aspects of QME work.
We work with you by engaging in step-by-step training in med-legal reports writing from A-Z, preparation for deposition testimony via mock depositions, we train you to generate reports representing substantial medical evidence.
We work with you to assure that your reports received well by all the parties which undoubtedly will lead to being chosen on QME panels more frequently than other physicians in your respective specialties.
Dr. Sherman demonstrates strong forensic psychiatry expertise, applying DSM criteria accurately and integrating collateral data effectively. His reports are well-organized, objective, and accessible to legal and non-medical readers, with timely completion. He maintains neutrality and professionalism. He is also very generous with his time and knowledge when mentoring QME clinicians. He and his team take care in helping new QMEs navigate the complex workers’ compensation system from the interview to report writing and beyond. I recommend working with Dr. Sherman.
I’ve worked with Premier Disability Evaluators since 2024 as a QME Psychiatry. I find the physician handling to be nuanced, detailed, and prompt. The case feedback I receive from my mentor, Dr. Sherman, a board-certified forensic-fellowshipped psychiatrist is tailored to each report, with all aspects of the case considered, and easy for me to integrate, for one, but likewise really helpful to me as a QME, for my own professional development. I am also provided with a phone call to discuss cases for which there will be a deposition. The deposition preparation has helped me to feel ready and secure for any questions that I might field. The support staff is responsive, to the point of picking up and knowing who I am when I call, providing for me unprompted all of the additional paperwork I need to complete the reports, and fulfilling my specific calendar requests with ease. By working with my direct mentor, I have developed my own voice as a QME, but one that is informed. I feel that my strengths are built upon through the mentoring process, but that I am also introduced to new concepts and ways of working that make me a better QME.
